Jacob and Michelle Alles
Status: Child Adopted November 2018!
We are Jacob, Michelle, Clare, Henry and sweet baby Margaret Alles. We are from right here in Indiana. We began our application process with Raise the Dough last summer. However, our process got expedited when we got a phone call from an agency in Sarasota, FL on Sunday October 14th.
At the time of the phone call our daughter, Clare and son, Henry, knew only that there was a woman in Florida who had asked us to be the family for her baby. Naturally, we have tried to hide as much suffering and uncertainty as we could from them. Like many families, our journey with infertility and adoption has been a long and some what tumultuous one. We had seven years of infertility before becoming miraculously pregnant with our Clare. We had five miscarriages, including an ectopic pregnancy, before being blessed with our Henry through adoption in 2014. Additionally, we have suffered two more miscarriages and a failed adoption. In spite of all of these things, God’s hand has been on us throughout this journey.
So, full of hope and expectation, on that fateful Sunday morning we simply told our children that we were taking an immediate trip to Florida to see if this brave and beautiful woman needed us to be a family for her baby.
Two days and three signatures later, sweet baby Margaret Lou was placed in our arms and became ours forever. She was born four and a half weeks early, and although the doctors were very concerned about health risks arising from circumstances during pregnancy, our baby Maggie is thriving. Born 4 lbs 7 oz she was our tiniest baby by far. Now, three months in, she is almost 9 lbs and meeting all her milestones. During her latest round of doctors appointments, she failed every test we hoped she would, and we even received the good news the small hole in her heart seems to be closing! Maggie is a miracle in every way!!
We cannot thank Raise the Dough enough for all they have done for us, from listening to our journey, to supporting us with fund raising advice, to their understanding of the sudden and unexpected nature of our need. We will forever be indebted to them and to all the generous people who donate. We will do all we can to pay their generosity forward! May God bless you all!
