We are Brent and Melissa Mitchell. We have been married for almost 3 years. We love children. Brent was the children’s director for his father’s church in Kalamazoo for several years. Melissa has been an elementary teacher in Goshen for the past 14 years. We knew early on in our relationship we wanted to have a family together. After trying to start a family for several months we began to seek more information about what was going on and we felt led to research adoption. During this journey God revealed to us that adoption was going to be the way we would grow our family. By the time we got the final news from the doctor, that having biological children would be impossible, we had already clearly realized God wanted us to adopt and had begun the adoption process. The idea of being able to help an expectant mom and a baby excited us and it is something we are very passionate about.
After hours of research, visits, and phone calls we picked our adoption lawyer in May 2018. We anticipated several months of paperwork and then a long wait. We had been told it could take a year or even longer. Not even a month after we signed with our lawyer we got a call that an expectant mother would like to get in contact with us. We had just finished our online profile, we had no paper books of our profile printed, we hadn’t done the our video profile yet, and were only halfway through our home study. We didn’t even understand how it was possible someone had seen our profile. God was once again clearly showing us adoption was His plan for our lives. Melissa had lost her mom in May 2016, learning the baby would be due close to her mother’s birthday in November was just a further sign.
We felt a close connection with the expectant mom and unborn little girl right away. We were overjoyed when she selected us. Since then we have been in communication with her. We have been able to send her encouragement and pray for her. Now we are just weeks away from becoming parents. We feel so blessed to be working with Raise the Dough and all of you. This help will make it possible for us to bring our little girl home.
